Markku Mäkinen is an accomplished commercial and corporate lawyer with extensive experience in both private practice and senior in-house roles, advising on cross‑border commercial and corporate matters as well as complex transactions. Markku focuses particularly on mergers and acquisitions and large‑scale investment projects, with a strong emphasis on guiding clients through technology‑driven initiatives.

Before joining HPP, Markku served as in‑house counsel at Nokia Corporation, where he gained substantial experience managing demanding international technology projects. During his tenure, he led several legal teams, including Nokia’s China legal team in Beijing from 2001 to 2004 and the North America legal team in Dallas from 2005 to 2008.

Markku led HPP as Managing Partner from 2015 to 2024, demonstrating strong strategic leadership and a clear vision for the firm’s development. In January 2025, he assumed the role of Chair of the Board of Directors, where he continues to shape the firm’s strategic direction and its approach to delivering legal services in the evolving fields of various business sectors.
